SLP Orioles-Cooper Hawks Football Preview

The St. Louis Park Orioles go for their second straight win Friday night as they head for New Hope to take on the Cooper Hawks at 7 PM.

Last week, the Orioles blasted the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles 40-0 in their season opener.  Johnny Sorenson, in his first start replacing the graduated Logan Romero completed 16 of 21 passes for 211 yards.  Three of his passes were for touchdowns, two to Semaj Mitchell.  Sophomore Aaron Ellingson played most of the second half and showd he is capable of running the Oriole offense.

Now the schedule gets progressively difficult for St. Louis Park as five of their next seven games are against teams that are ranked in the top 10 in Classes 4 & 5A.  The only opponents the Orioles play that are unranked are Richfield and DeLaSalle.

The Hawks came off a 39-12 win over the Park Center Pirates last Friday.  Quarterback Cameron King threw for four touchdowns as Cooper  scored 33 of their 39 points in the fourth quarter to put away the Pirates.

The last four time Cooper and St. Louis Park played, the Hawks have scored more than 30 points.  Can the Orioles pull off the upset by playing strong defense and getting a top notch game from Sorenson?
