Holy Angels Stars Shut Out SLP Orioles

The bleachers were packed at the St. Louis Park High School stadium for the annual Homecoming football game but it wasn't a happy one for the host Orioles as Joseph Heimbold passed for a touchdown and ran for another to lead the Holy Angels Stars to a 30-0 win Friday night.

Neither team put the ball in the end zone in the first quarter.  The Orioles had a chance to capitalize on a Stars fumble that was recovered by John Demcisak but nothing came of it.  Holy Angels would get on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Heimbold, who returned to the game after getting shaken up in the first quarter heaved a 74 yard touchdown pass to John Kosmach.  The Stars would shine a minute later on John Anderson's five run touchdown run up the middle to put them ahead 14-0 at halftime.

Holy Angels, ranked fifth in Class AAAA, would benefit from Heimbold's footwork in the third quarter as he scored on an eight yard keeper.  Defense would also prevail as a blocked Johnny Sorenson put would go into the end zone for a safety and the Stars went up 23-0.

St. Louis Park, even with sophomore Aaron Ellingson couldn't move the sticks to get into Holy Angels territory.  Ellingson would throw a pass that was intercepted by the Stars Mitch Hendrickson and he would reach the end zone to wrap up the scoring.

Terrence O'Brien and Doreen Morenga were name Homecoming king and queen at halftime.

The Stars stay unbeaten, going to 3-0 and host the DeLaSalle Islanders on Friday, September 22 at 7 PM at the Holy Angels Stardome.  The Orioles fell to 1-2 and will also be in action on the 22nd as they travel to Richfield to face the Spartans.  Please note that game time is 7:30 PM unlike previous start times of 7 PM.
