Holy Angels Stars-SLP Orioles Football Preview

Get ready for Homecoming football action Friday night as the St. Louis Park Orioles host the Holy Angels Stars in a 7 PM start.

Last week, the Orioles dropped their first game of the season 40-17 to the Cooper Hawks.  St. Louis Park led after the first quarter 14-0 as quarterback Johnny Sorenson reached the end zone on a two yard run and threw a one yard touch down pass to Akili Faris.  That was the good news.  Now comes the bad news.  The Hawks would put the game away with 26 unanswered points, including two touchdown passes from Cameron King.  The Orioles would add a 30 yard field goal from Skyler Rudelius-Palmer but that was the only scoring for St. Louis Park the remainder of the game.

As for Sorenson he completed 20 of 35 passes for 315 yards and rushed for 64 yards.  St. Louis Park will need to have a good game from Sorenson and the defense has to play solid to dim the Stars light on the green turf field.

Holy Angels, ranked fifth in Class AAAA, returns a number of key players from last year's Section 6 runner up team.  Quarterback Joseph Heimbold returns and their top running back Jack Anderson has been a key player on offense.  Last week, Anderson ran for two touchdowns and 77 yards in an 18-7 victory over the South St. Paul Packers.  Heimbold has been a bold dual threat on offense for Holy Angels as he passed for 80 yards and ran for 121 yards against the Packers.  In their season opener against the Hill-Murray Pioneers, Heimbold ran for two touchdown and ran for two more.  His speed and athleticism could cause problems for the Oriole defense.  Another player  to watch for on the Stars is Peter Laird.  He's a two way player who is a receiver on offense and also plays defense.

Can the Orioles pull off the upset for a Happy Homecoming or will the Stars shine bright?  be sure and get to the game early because the stands will be packed.
