A Warroad Warrior Wallop

Last year's Class A runner up the Warroad Warriors opened the Wednesday evening session of the 2019 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament with a pure hat trick from Genevieve Hendrickson that led the top seeded and top ranked Class A team to a 4-0 win over St. Paul United in a quarterfinal game at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Warriors tallied twice in the first period.  Cahlilah Lindquist would pass to Hannah Corneliusen and she went along the left boards, cut to the face off circle and went top shelf to put Warroad on the scoreboard.  Hendrickson would wrap up the first period scoring when she forced a turnover from SPU's Jenna Hoops and she would score from the center slot.

Warroad concluded the scoring with a pair of second period power play goals from the trio of Hendrickson, Kaitlyn Kotlowski and Sydney Phaneuf.  The first came on a rebound from Kotlowski's saved shot by SPU goalie Kenzie Giese.  The final goal came with :08 left in the period following a center slot pass from Phaneuf.

The Warriors recorded their 16th shut out of the season and improved their record to 27-0-1.  They will play the winner of the Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota-Proctor/Hermantown game in the Class A semifinal Friday, February 22 at 1:30 PM at the Xcel Energy Center. SPU fell to 12-14-2 and will play in the Class A consolation semifinals on Thursday, February 22 at noon at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center in downtown St. Paul.
