SLP Orioles-Cooper Hawks Football Preview

The St. Louis Park Orioles will have another tough task Friday night when they head up to New Hope to take on the unbeaten Cooper Hawks.

It will be the second consecutive week that the Orioles will play a team with an unblemished record.  Last Friday, St. Louis Park took on the third ranked team in Class AAAAA the Spring Lake Park Panthers and got clobbered 48-12.  The start of the second half was delayed an hour due to lightning in the St. Louis Park area. There wasn't even a drop of rain that night.

The Hawks took on their Robbinsdale district rival last Friday the Armstrong Falcons and came back from a 14 point deficit to win 16-14.  It was a monumental comeback for Cooper when Cameron King threw a 41 yard touchdown pass to Phoenix Sproles with :20 left in the game to clinch their third straight victory.

Keys to the game for the Orioles are to cut down on turnovers, which was their achilles heel last week against the Panthers and to get a solid game from their quarterback Logan Romero.  Last week after play resumed following the lightning delay,, head coach Ben Wolfe pulled Romero and replaced him with Johnny Sorenson.  Sorenson, a left hander who also is a receiver made the most of the opportunity by throwing a 62 yard touchdown pass to Semaj Mitchell in the fourth quarter.  If the game is decided early, Sorenson could get another shot calling signals.

Cooper's keys to the game including getting production from their running backs Noah Hill and Nsacier Borden who ran for a combined 198 yards against Armstrong.  King needs to have another solid passing game and the Hawks defense has to stop the Oriole attack.

Can St. Louis Park knock Cooper from the unbeaten ranks or will the Hawks stay unbeaten and set up a possible season ending showdown (as well a preview of the Section 5AAAAA final) on October 19 against Spring Lake Park?
