One Goal is All SLP Orioles Need to Beat Mpls. Southwest Lakers

A late first half goal by Ellie Kent with 2:07 to go would hold up as the only goal of the game as the host St. Louis Park Orioles beat the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers 1-0 Tuesday night.

The Orioles almost struck early but Rafferty Kugler's shot hit the crossbar.  Both teams would play outstanding defense throughout the first half until Kent scored from the right side with 2:07 left in the the first half and St. Louis Park would lead 1-0.

In the second half, the Lakers had a couple of opportunities to send the game into overtime.  Erica Lieske took a shot from the right side but Oriole goalkeeper Anna Roethler came up with a save.  Roethler would also prevent Southwest from tying the game when she played out of the net and made a key save.

St. Louis Park won their third straight game and improved their record to 4-4.  Southwest dropped their third straight game and fell to 3-6.  Both teams return to action on Thursday, September 22 at 5 PM.  The Lakers will head to Minneapolis Washburn, ranked eight in Class AA and the Orioles host the Cooper Hawks.
