Jefferson Jaguars-SLP Orioles Football Preview

After getting blown out by the Cooper Hawks last Thursday, the St. Louis Park Oriole football team returns home to begin the second half of the season against the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars Friday night.

Yes, St. Louis Park did fall to Cooper last Thursday night to enter the second half of the season with a 1-3 record.  They trailed the Hawks 6-3 before Cooper scored 35 unanswered points en route to a 41-3 drubbing.  Emmanuel Karmo gave the Hawks karma with two touchdowns.  As for the Orioles sophomore sensation, running back Mason Helfmann, he was a nonfactor, held to only 24 rushing yards.  St. Louis Park was outgained 322-101.  The one bright spot was on defense where tony Kruse had St. Louis Park's lone interception.

The key to the game for the Orioles is to get their momentum back on offense and for Helfmann to find running room.

The Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars are off to one of their best starts in years as they picked up their third straight win 22-15 over the Hastings Raiders.  The Jaguars rebounded from a season opening shutout by New Prague to also defeat St. Cloud Tech and Tartan.  Tyson Schultz threw two touchdown passes and Cormac Radford intercepted three Raider passes.  Jonathan Weber rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.

The key to the game for Jefferson is for Schultz to have a potent passing game and for Radford to anchor the defense.

It's going to feel like summer Friday night.  The weather picture has temperatures in the mid to high 70s but you might need an umbrella late in the game because thunderstorms are possible after 9 PM. Game time is 7 PM.
