Six Straight Wins for SLP Orioles

On a chilly Saturday night in St. Louis Park, the Oriole offense heated up as Willy Basill, Luke Mobley and Bauer Neudecker scored two goals apiece to lead them to a 7-2 win over the Mankato East/Loyola Cougars at the Rec Center.

It was the sixth consecutive win for St. Louis Park, who has not lost a game since December 10 when they lost to the Orono Spartans 6-2.

The Orioles struck quickly in the first period when Mobley's shot went off the left pad of Cougar goalie Jack Cusey and into the net :36 into the game.  They would go up by two :45 later as Basill got a pass from Bauer Neudecker and scored from the right doorstep.  Mobley would score his second goal from the left point off a pass from Brenton Ryan. Defense was also part of the equation as Oriole goalie William Pinney made an outstanding save of Mankato East/Loyola's shot by Luke Sellner.  The Cougars prevented a shutout on Sam Schulz's goal that clanked off the post and entered the net with 5:00 left in the period.

In the second period, Bauer Neudecker went down the left boards like a car headed down Wooddale Ave., cut to the right of Cusey and scored a short handed goal.  Bauer Neudcker assisted on the next goal in a series of tic tac toe passes that ended in Basill's second goal.  Nick Salzie would wrap up the second period scoring for Mankato East/Loyola, scoring from the right slot.

St. Louis Park would send the fans to their warm homes happy in the third period as Johnny Sorenson scored from Cusey's right side on a pass from Bauer Neudecker.  There would be no running time in the third period since Bauer Neudecker would conclude the scoring as he rebounded Riley Dvorak's shot.

The Orioles improved their record to 9-3 and host the Chaska Hawks on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 PM at The Rec Center. The Cougars ended their streak of three consecutive ties and fell to 7-4-3.  They wlll head toward I-35 on the 10th to face the Albert Lea Tigers at 7:15 at the Albert Lea City Arena.

St. Louis Park is 3-0 against the Big Nine Conference.  In addition to the win over Mankato East/Loyola, they have beaten Rochester Mayo and Owatonna.
