To quote a song from the cartoon short Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, "The rain rain rain came down down down" Tuesday night but it didn't stop the St. Louis Park girls soccer team from scoring three second half goals as the host Orioles shut out the Minneapolis South Tigers 3-0.
As fans with numerous umbrella designs viewed the contest on this rainy Tuesday night, there was no scoring in the first half. Following a shortened halftime break, the Orioles opened the second half scoring on a goal from Aliviah McClinton that went past the right side of Tiger goalkeeper Chloe Olson. St. Louis Park would go up by two when Ellie Kent was awarded a free kick. She would go up against a four player wall from Mpls. South and shoe lined the ball toward the net, deflecting off of Olson's right hand and entering the net. The Orioles would conclude the scoring as Ava Bishop fed Kate Kasica in the center slot and she sent it past Olson for her first varsity goal.
St. Louis Park ended a three game losing streak and improved their record to 1-3. They will return to action Thursday, September 6 as they host the Chaska Hawks at 7 PM. Mpls. South fell to 1-2 and will also be in action on the 6th, heading to northeast Minneapolis to take on the Edison Tommies at 5 PM.
