The 2021-22 regular season came to a close for the St. Louis Park Orioles Thursday night as Mason Pelke scored two goals and picked up one assist to lead the Woodbury Royals to a 6-0 shutout over the Orioles at The Rec Center.
The Royals made the most of their trip from the East Metro with two first period goals. Mac Gordon passed to Pelke on the left side and he fired the puck over the goal line. They would go up by two when Chris Fotopoulos' shot was saved by Josh Middleton and the senior tapped in the rebound as the net went off its moorings.
Woodbury would conclude the scoring with four second period goals. Nicholar Bradley rebounded Pelke's shot to put the Royals ahead by three. Then came Dylan Hoschka's shot from the right corner that went past Middleton and into the net. Woodbury would also tally while shorthanded. Max Belak was serving a minor hooking penalty and RJ Altman scored an unassisted goal. But as time was running out in the period. Pelke would score from the left side with a half second to go. The Roayls had a five on three advantage for 1:18 in the third period but they couldn't extend their lead. '
Woodbury improved their record to 13-11 and ends the regular season on Saturday, February 19 at 7 PM against the Mahtomedi Zephyrs at the St Croix Valley Rec Center in Stillwater. St. Louis Park concluded the regular season with a record of 11-13-1. They will begin Section 6AA tournament play on Thursday, February 24.
