North Lakes Academy Huskies Sink Groves Academy Griffins

Cole Donelon was a merry soul Tuesday night, scoring 26 Points to lead the North Lakes Academy Huskies to a 79-63 win over the Groves Academy Griffins in St. Louis Park.

Donelan and Ethan Crandall would help the Huskies get off to a strong start.  Crandall would score the first five points and Donelan would add a three.  Sam Goldstein would put the Griffins on the board and Larry Mohamed would score to cut the NLA lead in half.  Donelan would hit two more shots from Minnetonka Blvd. to widen the Huskie lead.  Goldstein, the 6'5" senior center for Groves Academy would be the offensive bright spot in the first half, scoring 11 of the Griffins first 12 points.  But there would be some hope in the half as Josh Lightowler hit a free throw to cut the lead to seven.  But NLA would start to pull away Asher Luebke and Alex Ten Napel would spark an 8-0 run and the Huskies led 42-23 at halftime.

Goldstein, who had 15 points in the first half would score the first basket of the second half and Gabe Gordon would hit a three pointo come within 14 points.  Goldstein would score from the post to to put the Griffins on a 7-0 run and also make an outstanding defensive play as he blocked Tallon Johnson's shot.  It would be the only time Groves Academy would get close as Donelan would score eight straight points.  Crandall would also tally to put the Huskies on a 10-0 run.  Even the NLA bench would contribute.  Sam Schmidt would hit a three point play and with the game decided, head coach Mark Kosloski would clear his bench to give his reserves playing time.

Other players in double figures for NLA were Crandall with 16 points and Ten Napel added 14.  Goldstein led Groves Academy with 33 points and Gordon scored 13.

The Griffins were without Nick Maiers who did not play due to undisclosed reasons.

NLA improved their record to 6-7 and will host Hiawatha Collegiate on Friday, January 18 at 7 PM.  Groves Academy fell to 3-8 and hosts the Liberty Classical Academy Lions on Thursday, January 17 at 6 PM.
