He's been one of the keys to the St. Louis Park Orioles boys hockey team's success this season and it has paid off for senior Bauer Neudecker, who is one of ten finalists for the 2017 Mr. Hockey Award.
Neudecker has scored 39 goals and picked up 34 assists for a total of 73 points. He is third in points among the state's boys hockey players behind another Mr. Hockey finalist, Ben Meyers of Delano with 93 and Brian Halonen, also from Delano with 78.
This season, Neudecker has recorded five hat tricks and has a season high six goals in the home opener against Rochester Mayo December 1.
Though Neudecker has not decided where he will be playing college hockey, he will head to Alaska following the conclusion of the St. Louis Park season to play for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the NAHL.
The rest of the Mr. Hockey finalists features a pair of players from the defending Class A champion Hermantown Hawks Dylan Samberg and Ryan Sandelin, Casey Mittlestadt and Nicky Leivermann of Eden Prairie, Matt Anderson of Holy Family Catholic, Noah Cates of Stillwater, Micah Miller of Grand Rapids and Nick Perbix of Elk River.
The winner will be announced at the Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet Sunday, March 12 at noon at the St. Paul RiverCentre. In addition, the Frank Brimsek Award will be presented to Minnesota's top senior goalie. The two finalists are Jake Begley of Hill-Murray and Cade McEwen of Hermantown. Can Neudecker lead the Orioles quest to the state tournament and bring home the Mr. Hockey Award?
